Snowberry lives somewhere between a shrub and a vine, with arching, weak stems that like to lean and clamber. Given a fence or a neighbor to lean on, it makes a loose, natural screen; left alone it mounds into a relaxed shrub. It carries small yellow flowers and hanging white berries year-round, both pretty up close, and it's a butterfly and moth host plus a bird food source. It's a nice choice for a naturalistic native bed or a wildlife hedgerow on the Treasure Coast.
Care
Give it part sun and water it in, then it handles a range from moist to dry. It grows in our sandy and limestone soils without fuss. Decide early whether you want it as a leaning screen, and give it a trellis or fence, or as a mounded shrub you prune back. It grows fast and can get rangy, so a yearly cutback keeps it in bounds. Compost and mulch are all the feeding it needs.
Common problems
The honest caveat is habit: it's floppy and vigorous, and in a small tidy bed it can flop over neighbors and look unruly, even aggressive. The fix is simple, give it support and prune it, or site it where a loose, wild look is welcome. It's not for a formal clipped hedge. Pests are minor.

Is it a shrub or a vine?
Both, really. The stems are weak and scrambling, so it acts like a vine if you give it support and like a loose shrub if you don't. Plan around which look you want.
Will it take over?
It can get rangy and lean on its neighbors, so I keep it pruned and give it room or a structure to climb. In a wild hedgerow that vigor is a plus.
Are the white berries edible?
They're for the birds, not for us. Grow it for the wildlife value and the pretty dangling berries, not as a fruit crop.
